The Show

Our musical "Bluebirds" reclaims the lush, romantic language of the Golden Age musical and places it in service of stories that have historically been silenced. Where classic Broadway once celebrated idealized versions of love and society, "Bluebirds" dares to ask: Whose stories were left out of this golden age?

We center LGBTQ+ lives within a style once reserved for heteronormative narratives, bridging nostalgia with inclusion. We speak directly to today’s struggles while honoring the legacy of Golden Age musical theatre.

With a soaring score and sweeping romance, Bluebirds invites audiences into a world that feels timeless—even as it resonates powerfully with contemporary conversations. Engaging with this work means embracing a show that celebrates authenticity, community, and resilience—while proving that Golden Age musicals can still sing, but this time, for everyone.

Synopsis

“Bluebirds” is a Golden Age musical for the people whose stories were never told in that style. The tale follows a closeted Anthony Baker and his wife, Lucille, as they navigate the claws of society in 1930s New York City. During a fateful evening out, Anthony meets Luke, a charming diner employee with big dreams, who introduces him to a whole new world of underground music, dance, queerness, and acceptance. Meanwhile, Lucille grapples with the pressures of the Ladies Society Club, led by the catty and conniving Elsie, who is determined to tear down the very ideals Anthony is only just beginning to embrace.

With twists and turns, laughter and tears, "Bluebirds" brings the heart, musicality, and romance of a classic tale into a bold new age.
